“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.”
— 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

Questions, Questions, Questions

Why do we often ask God the same question repeatedly?

Not because He has failed to answer.

More often, it is because we are hoping for a different answer.

We ask again and again, searching for a response that aligns with our plans, our comfort, our preferences, or our fears. We convince ourselves that if we keep asking, eventually we will hear something that feels easier to accept.

Yet God has already spoken.

His Word contains everything necessary for life, wisdom, direction, and spiritual victory. The problem is rarely a lack of answers. The problem is often our willingness to receive the answers we have already been given.

Sometimes we are so busy asking questions that we fail to hear what God is saying.

Sometimes we hear clearly but simply do not like the answer.

The Battle Between Truth and Flesh

God’s truth is not complicated.

The conflict begins when truth collides with the desires of the flesh.

The flesh constantly encourages us to second-guess what God has said. It whispers fear when God calls us to faith. It promotes self-preservation when God calls us to surrender. It tells us to trust money, security, comfort, and control instead of trusting God completely.

Scripture often refers to this misplaced trust as serving mammon—a dependence on worldly security rather than divine provision.

The flesh will always offer reasons to delay obedience.

The Spirit calls us to move forward.

The Dangerous Illusion of Inertia

One of the enemy’s most effective strategies is not outright rebellion.

It is inertia.

Inertia convinces us that standing still is harmless.

We tell ourselves:

  • “I’m not moving away from God.”
  • “I’m not doing anything wrong.”
  • “Things are fine just as they are.”

But spiritual life does not operate in neutral.

There is no standing still in the Kingdom of God.

Every day we are either drawing closer to Him or drifting farther away.

The enemy would love nothing more than for believers to become comfortable, distracted, and complacent. He knows that a stagnant believer poses little threat to darkness.

Inertia creates the illusion of safety while slowly leading people away from God’s purposes.

The Frog in the Pot

The spirit of inertia often works gradually.

Like the well-known illustration of a frog sitting in warming water, the temperature rises so slowly that danger is hardly noticed until it is too late.

Rarely does spiritual decline happen overnight.

It happens through small compromises.

A neglected prayer life.

A Bible left unopened.

A delayed act of obedience.

A gradual acceptance of things God once convicted us about.

The drift is subtle.

The consequences are significant.

You Already Have What You Need

The encouraging truth is that God has not left His people unequipped.

According to 2 Peter 1:3, His divine power has already given us everything we need for life and godliness.

Everything.

Not some things.

Not most things.

Everything.

The tools to overcome fear.

The strength to resist temptation.

The wisdom to discern truth.

The power to walk in obedience.

The ability to become an example for others.

God has already provided what is necessary. The question is whether we will use what He has given us.

Time to Jump Out of the Pot

If you sense complacency creeping into your walk with God, today is the day to respond.

Do not wait for a more convenient season.

Do not wait until circumstances force change.

Do not settle for merely maintaining your current position.

God is calling His people to wake up, shake off spiritual slumber, and move forward with purpose.

The season of standing still is over.

The Spirit is calling believers to action, obedience, faith, and growth.

It is time to jump out of the pot.

It is time to shake off complacency.

It is time to hit the road running.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there areas where I keep asking God questions because I do not like His answer?
  2. Have I mistaken comfort for spiritual progress?
  3. Where has complacency quietly entered my relationship with God?
  4. What step of obedience is God asking me to take today?

Prayer

Father, forgive me for the times I have delayed obedience while searching for answers You have already given. Help me recognize the subtle drift of complacency and the deception of spiritual inertia. Awaken my heart, strengthen my faith, and give me the courage to move forward in obedience. Thank You that through Your divine power You have already given me everything I need to walk in Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
